Marcus Andrews has performed as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician across the UK, Europe and the USA. He enjoys presenting recitals that feature a mix of well- and lesser-known repertoire to audiences with spoken introductions. His debut CD featured music by Beethoven and Nicholas Medtner and both composers have been a major interest throughout is career.
As a concerto soloist Marcus recently played Rachmaninoff Concerto No. 2 with the Makris Symphony Orchestra in Belgrade, Serbia and has performed all the Beethoven concerti with St Paul's Sinfonia.
Marcus has recorded a number of CDs and broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 In Tune with Matthew Trusler. He has also recorded for Finnish radio station YLE 1.
Marcus studied with Yvonne Dinwiddy, with Simon Young at Trinity Laban and with Neal Larrabee at the University of Connecticut. In June 2001 he studied intensively with John O'Conor at the Beethoven Course in Positano, Italy, run by the Fondazione Culturale Wilhelm Kenpff and has several times been a bursary student at Dartington International Summer School.
Ruth Beedham and Marcus Andrews first played together at Trinity Laban in 2002 and have given numerous recitals together as a duo and as part of the Backman Trio. Since the birth of their youngest son Joshua, they have begun a series of charity concerts in support of the hospitals that treated him with such great care, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Tiger Ward at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Marcus began playing chamber music with friends at school and has been in demand as an accompanist ever since. Marcus began playing chamber music with friends at school and has been in demand as an accompanist ever since. He was Graduate Assistant Accompanist at the University of Connecticut and has been a Staff Accompanist at Trinity Laban since 2001. He is a staff accompanist for the Tunbridge Wells International Music Competition, having won their accompanist prize in 2000 and works regularly for the GSMD Wind Department. Recently he was staff accompanist for the Classic Winds Competition in Dubai, UAE.
The Backman Trio formed in 2009 and toured Finland and the UK. They often featured neglected and new music from both countries in their programmes and their CD, Fantasia, included the debut recording of Erik Bergman's Trio as well as works by Sibelius, Ireland and Bridge.
